If the user who accesses the password changing script belongs to the special group "administrators," he or she will be able to manage users remotely. Basically, you can use the script to maintain your users, groups and passwords in your .group and .passwd files -- you don't need to ever access these two files manually! Then set up your .htaccess file, as described and shown in the FAQ. Edit it so the text file references the .group and .passwd files in your home directory like this:
/home/your_username/.group
/home/your_username/.passwd
1. The first time you use Webmister, you must enter your username and password. The Webmister username is the same as your ftp username. For purposes of this help file, let's assume your username is "user1" and the password is "changeme."
2. Once you input your username, user1, and your password, changeme, the next screen will look like this. [NOTE: The screens you'll see on this page are for illustrative purposes only.]
Here you will also be able to enter a new user (remember, you are both an administrator AND a user for your Realm at your_domain.com, and you may enter usernames and passwords for your users and/or administrators too. Let's say that you have gone ahead and added a user called "your_new_username."
3. Once you have submitted your new user, the next screen will boldly announce:
Now you are presented with the choice of letting "your_new_username" be simply a user or an administrator or both by checking-off your selection(s). You will also be able to add some "Other" GROUP name.
Finally, you will enter a password for "your_new_username" and "SET VALUES" by pressing the button.
4. After you change or add a new password, you will be taken to this screen:
